Commissioned in 1914 by Count von Schwerin for his fiancée, Margarethe von Heinitz, this German castle was converted into a privately owned hotel in 1996. In May 2000, additional rooms, a gourmet restaurant “Leo’s at the Castle”, a new kitchen, a wine cellar, and a swimming pool next to the Pool-Side Deluxe Rooms were completed.
The Heinitzburg today offers spacious, generously appointed en-suite rooms, each with its own superb view.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (during summer) can be enjoyed on the terrace with a superb view over the city. The terrace is open throughout the day for coffee, cakes from our own patisserie, snacks, and sundowner cocktails—making it a famous viewpoint for spectacular sunsets.
This cellar built into the mountain rock offers lunch or dinner and can also serve as a meeting room. It features a view of carefully selected vintage treasures that pay tribute to South Africa’s wine history—a perfect venue for private groups.
The road leading into Windhoek is called Sam Nujoma Drive. You will pass three traffic light junctions before turning left onto Heinitzburg Street. Hotel Heinitzburg is located at the top of the hill on the right side. Our street address is Heinitzburg Street #22.
