Waterberg was the site of one of the major
turning points in Namibia's History. It was here, on the foothills, that
the Herero people lost their last and greatest battle against the German
Colonial forces at the beginning of the century. Waterberg Guest house
is situated on a 42,000ha private cattle farm called the Ranch 'Okosongomingo'.

Waterberg Guesthouse is situated on a 42,000ha private
cattle farm called the Ranch 'Okosongomingo'. It is set at the foot of
the picturesque Waterberg Plateau, itself a natural halfway stop between
Namibia's capital city Windhoek and the country's most visited tourist
attraction, Etosha National Park.
The town of Otjiwarongo is only 63km away and a fly-in safari and transfer
can be arranged to their 1,400m long airstrip.
The guesthouse is situated on the slope of the Small Waterberg. The original
1930’s manager’s house was converted into guesthouse.
The traditional African grass-roofed “lapa” next to the swimming
pool offers al fresco dining and a fully stocked ‘honesty bar’.
Here guests can sit on the wooden deck and watch the floodlit waterhole
as antelope, warthog and the occasional leopard come for a drink, and
in turn, be watched by our resident family of baboons.

Hiking
As the guest farm is located at the foot of Small Waterberg a hike to
the plateau can be organized. It includes a brisk walk to a natural spring
with several lookout points en-route.
'Little Serengeti'
A 1,600ha grassland has been converted from a vast maize field to provide
antelope with a free-roaming site to graze without restriction or fear
of injury from game fences or outside interference. Sundowners in an open-sided
safari vehicle, accompanied by their knowledgeable game guides, can be
arranged.
This tour is often combined with a visit to the CCF's Education Centre.
Waterberg Plateau Park
On the eastern slope of 'Big Waterberg' is the 'wilderness area' called
Bernabà de la Bat Camp, 21 km from Waterberg Guest Farm. It is
ideal for a day visit. A game viewing drive on top of the plateau can
be arranged with possible sightings (not guaranteed) of rhino, buffalo,
sable and roan antelope.
Location
Traveling on the B1 Between Okahandja and 28km from Otjiwarongo you will
reach the turnoff to the Waterberg Plateau on C22. Travel a further 30km
and you will reach the turn off to the Waterberg Guesthouse.
