Accommodation at Hohenstein Lodge
At Hohenstein all the bungalows and the restaurant share the same breathtaking
view. To the right you will see Mount Hohenstein (2.319 meter above sea
level).
In front of you across a wide valley dotted with ancient Camelthorn trees,
is Mount Kainachab (1.469 meter). A little further to the left is the famous
Spitzkoppe.
Extend Your Stay
Anyone choosing to stay longer can embark on day trips to Spitzkoppe and Brandberg,
go on long hikes, or enjoy game and bird-watching. The panorama from the
peak of Kainachab cannot be described – it’s something that
has to be experienced.
Conservation and Community Efforts
We are active members of the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy (EMNC), which works to protect the wealth of endemic and rare wildlife species and the archaeological sites of the Erongo Mountain. At our border, the community area of Damara Land begins.
Dining with a View
Having dinner inside the restaurant or outside on our spacious veranda while the game comes to the waterhole to drink is an unforgettable experience. During the day, birds are attracted to the water, so remember to bring your binoculars!
Stunning Surroundings
The area surrounding Hohenstein Lodge is, without any doubt, one of the most impressive landscapes in the country. The name of the lodge is taken from the highest mountain of the Erongo, the Hohenstein.
A Collaborative Effort
After purchasing the farm years ago, we began transforming it into a reserve. The local people from Damara Land were part of the project, building the lodge under the supervision of skilled workers from outside. Our staff are very proud of what has been achieved and enjoy sharing their experiences with our guests. Airport transfers can be arranged.

Directions
Coming from Swakopmund or the North:
On the B2 road from Swakopmund to Windhoek, approximately 65 km from Swakopmund and about 80 km from Hohenstein, you will see the impressive massif. Drive straight ahead until just before Usakos. The lodge is accessible via the D1935 from Usakos. Turn in Usakos between the police station and postal office, then follow about 25 km of dirt road to reach the lodge.
From the north, you can also arrive via the D1935. From the entrance to the D1935, it is about 2 km on a pleasant dirt road to the lodge.
Scenic Route:
A scenic alternative is to turn onto the gravel road D1930 towards Uis, approximately 25 km before Usakos, passing near Spitzkoppe. After about 9 km, turn onto the D1927. Continue for approximately 20 km and then turn right onto the D1935. After 8 km, you will reach the entrance gate to the lodge.
