There are numerous fountains in the riverbed of the Tsauchab, as the farm's name already suggests. During the rainy season, the Tsauchab River feeds the lake between the dunes of the Sossusvlei. The camping sites are located along the Tsauchab River, shaded by acacia and ebony trees.
The farm 'Hauchabfontein', home to many secrets and wonders of the desert, features an oasis with crystal-clear fountain water available all year round. It also boasts what is likely the largest quiver tree forest in Namibia.
The farm is surrounded by the majestic Naukluft Mountains to the north, the flat-topped Tsaris Mountains to the south, and the Namib Desert, including the Sesriem Canyon and the Sossusvlei, to the west—where the Tsauchab River meets the Zebra River.
The camping site serves as an ideal base for visiting nearby attractions, including Sesriem/Sossusvlei (59 km), the Naukluft (44 km), and the Neuras Winery (22 km).
Secluded behind the mountains is a stunning quiver tree forest, containing hundreds of these unique trees, which are native to Namibia.
From Maltahöhe on the C19 in the direction of Sossusvlei for 130 km, turn right at the T-junction into D854 and follow this road for 22 km.
A road trip across Namibia is an experience you will cherish forever, the freedom to stop wherever you want and explore Namibia on your own terms, for that you will need to hire the right car.
