Opuwo is the capital of the Kunene region in north-western Namibia. Population 12 000. The growing town is situated about 720 km north-northwest from Windhoek. The camp is built on the steep banks of one of the tributaries of the Hoarusib River.
Mopane Camp is built on communal property. The unique rustic tented
camp is built on the high, steep banks of a dry river, which is one
of the tributaries of the Hoarusib river. The tents are built in the
shade of large Mopane trees.

The accommodation consists of luxury tents, each with en-suite bathrooms, and a beautiful double bed made from railway sleepers, with innovative space for hanging clothes.
The verandah is an ideal spot from which to sit and watch the sunset.
All the tents are built in the shade of large Mopane trees.
Breakfast and dinner are served buffet style, whilst lunch can be ordered from a set menu.
Dinner is often prepared on the campfire and will be of the same standard as at the lodge.
Lunch may be had at the lodge in town, where Mopane's clients are welcome to make use of the coffee shop and the swimming pool.
Half and full day guided excursions to Himba villages are organised from
the camp.

Alternatively, guests might like to take one of the short, unguided walks that start and finish from Mopane Tented Camp.
The river has interesting rock formations, where there are cool rock pools for swimming during the rainy season.
Mopane Tented Camp is situated in Kaokoland 5 km east of Opuwo on the C41. The camp is built on the steep banks of one of the tributaries of the Hoarusib River. Mopane Camp is built on communal property.
A community fee is payable by all guests on a per person per day basis. These fees are then paid to the community leaders who use the money for development in a specific area, mostly relating to water and education. The community is consulted on a regular basis regarding present and future development at Mopane Camp.
Staff at the camp are employed from the surrounding community, and trained in various aspects of the hospitality industry, such as cooking, housekeeping, and guiding. The community in the area consists of both ovaHimba and ovaHerero families.
The camp is situated in a beautiful, peaceful, and quiet area, perfect for relaxation and nature enthusiasts.
The camp is home to a large variety of birds, creating a continuous natural orchestra throughout the day. Some of the species guests can observe include:
Permanent residents of the camp include small spotted genets, which are shy yet curious visitors to the boma and tents. During the daytime, Tree Squirrels are often seen around the boma area.
Note: It is advised that no food should be left out for the genets or squirrels.
As night falls, guests will drift to sleep with the sounds of owls hooting and the distant calls of jackals, adding to the camp's serene ambiance.
