"Agama River Camp is an oasis in the Namib Desert".
"A beautiful place with stunning views
from the upstairs terrace. We received a wonderful welcome and the
bathrooms are amazing".
The name ‘Agama’ is derived from the colourful family
of lizards that frequent the drier and open savannah regions of
Africa, this was also the first creature to make itself visible
when we entered the old farm gate, it seemed fitting to indulge
this inquisitive reptile in the name sake.
We are situated on the C19, 30 kms south of Solitaire and 50 kms
north of Sesriem, approximately forty five minutes from the main
gate way to Sossusvlei.
The ‘Main Camp’ is made up of eight camp sites only, coupled
with a dedicated swimming pool, restaurant, viewing deck and bar.
The camp sites all have wash-up facilities, braai areas, running
water, a 12v light and soft, level river sand under foot, this makes
for dust free camping and easier tent installation. Most importantly
they are all shaded by adult Acacia trees.
Our communal ablution facility is like no other with open skies
and large roomy, individually decorated chambers, hot water is provided
by wood boilers every afternoon at around five o’clock. In
addition to the main camp we also have an exclusive campsite at
the foot of the Naukluft mountains. This camp is some 6 kms off the
main road and is nestled in an ancient river system, it boasts two
showers, two toilets,a braai area and running water. It was previously
utilized by CC Africa’s exclusive Anderson and Thirst-land
expeditions, its charm is accentuated by the surrounding mountains
and its remoteness.
Most visitors utilize our facilities as an overnight access point
to Sossusvlei and the Namib Naukluft hiking trails. We also offer
self guided walks into the mountains. Pre-arranged meals for groups,
events and / or individuals as well as breakfast packs are available.
For those who don’t have camping equipment we will provide
tents, bedding, crockery and cutlery for an additional fee. Please
bring your own fire wood and ice, these two commodities are hard
to come by in the desert and our power supply is limited to four
hours per day by means of a diesel generator. A number of 220 v
electrical outlets are available for the charging of batteries and
or appliances
None of this would have any impact without our friendly staff that
provide you with a clean ‘campground’ and smile matched
assistance.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
