Ai-Ais, which means "burning water" in one of the local languages, refers to the sulphurous hot springs which are found in this area. One of these springs has its eye within the camp. Ai-Ais lies at the southern end of the Fish River conservation area.

Camp sites have communal ablution and kitchen facilities. The ablution blocks have showers and toilets. Camping sites are lit, have power points and can hold 8 persons per site.
The Fish River Hiking Trail is a 90km (56 mile) backpacking adventure, following the course of the river between sheer canyon walls. Canyon depths can reach in excess of 500 metres (546 yards) at times. This premier hiking trail starts at the northernmost view point and ends at Ai-Ais Hotsprings Spa which is on the border with South Africa.
